Lülitavate toiteallikate ja alalisvoolu/alalisvoolu muundurite puhul vähendavad madala impedantsiga kondensaatorid pinge lainetust, mis parandab väljundpinge stabiilsust.

Kui impedants on liiga kõrge, ei suuda kondensaator tõhusalt tasakaalustada voolu piike, mis võib põhjustada häireid või isegi kahjustada vooluahelat. Seetõttu kasutatakse eelkõige jõuelektroonikas sageli madala ESR-iga kondensaatoreid, et filtreerida tõhusalt suuri voolusid. Tootjad, nagu Hongda Capacitors, pakuvad erinevate rakenduste jaoks optimeeritud impedantsiga SMT-elektrolüütkondensaatoreid.

SMT-elektrolüütkondensaatorite kasutusiga sõltub mitmest tegurist. Eriti olulised on temperatuur, pinge, lainetusvool ja niiskus. Tüüpiliste alumiiniumist SMT-kondensaatorite kasutusiga on kõrge töötemperatuuri (nt 105 °C) juures 1000-10 000 tundi.

Madalamatel temperatuuridel võib kasutusiga siiski oluliselt pikendada. Tantaalkondensaatorid on vastupidavamad ja jõuavad sageli mitme aastakümne pikkuseks, kui neid kasutatakse nende spetsifikatsioonide piires. Nimipinge ületamine või liiga kõrged temperatuurid kiirendavad vananemisprotsessi ja võivad põhjustada enneaegset riket.

SMT elektrolüütkondensaatorid on saadaval alumiinium- ja tantaalversioonidena, mis on optimeeritud erinevate rakenduste jaoks. Alumiiniumist SMT-kondensaatorid pakuvad suurt mahtuvust madala hinnaga ja sobivad ideaalselt üldisteks rakendusteks toiteallikates, helivõimendites või juhtelektroonikas.
