Reliable thermal fuses for electronics and battery protection
Thermal fuses are essential safety elements in modern electronic systems. They reliably protect sensitive components from overheating and thermally induced damage. If the temperature is too high, they specifically disconnect the circuit and thus prevent dangerous consequential damage - for example due to thermal runaway of batteries or overcurrent in charging electronics.
As an experienced distributor, ROTIMA offers high-performance solutions for a wide range of applications in close cooperation with the manufacturer Bourns. Whether lithium-ion battery packs, USB Type-C charging cables or compact devices such as tablets, notebooks and digital cameras - our thermal protectors ensure safety in the smallest of spaces. Mini-breakers and polymer-based TCOs with different tripping values are available.
With their compact design, the option of automated SMD assembly and international certifications such as UL and TÜV, they are ideal for series production. We will be happy to advise you on choosing the right protection solution.

Thermal fuse for high currents in compact designs
Thermal fuses in electronics usually consist of heat-sensitive elements that interrupt the circuit when a defined temperature threshold is exceeded. In Bourns' mini-breakers, this is done mechanically by an internal bimetallic strip that deforms with heat and permanently disconnects the current flow. The P-TCO series, on the other hand, uses a polymer material that expands at overtemperature and drastically increases resistance.
Both variants have been specially developed for compact applications such as USB-C charging cables or battery packs and provide reliable, space-saving protection with high power density. The fuses can be reused after cooling down or power interruption.

Thermal fuses for thermal protection in the event of overcurrent
Thermal fuses are used in numerous electronic applications in which thermal safety plays a central role. A typical example is the protection of lithium-ion batteries in mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets or notebooks. Here, mini-breakers from Bourns prevent dangerous overheating by reliably interrupting the circuit at defined temperature thresholds.
Polymer-based P-TCO fuses also ensure the safety of modern USB-C charging cables. These detect thermal anomalies, such as damaged contacts or faulty charging currents, and interrupt the current flow before damage or fires occur.
Thermal fuses are also used in digital cameras, power banks, portable medical devices and cordless tools. Wherever high power density and compact designs are required, these components offer an effective and space-saving solution for overtemperature protection. Thanks to UL and TÜV certifications, they are ideally suited for international series products.
