Further information on fluoroplastic hoses

What are the special properties of a fluoroplastic hose?

Fluoroplastic hoses, such as PTFE, FEP and PFA, are characterized by their exceptional chemical resistance and high temperature tolerance, which can range from -200 °C to +260 °C. They are electrically insulating, mechanically stable and offer excellent non-stick properties. They are also extremely resistant to UV radiation and weathering, which makes them suitable for outdoor use.

Their smooth surfaces prevent deposits and facilitate cleaning, making them ideal for hygienically sensitive applications. They are also physiologically harmless, which makes them suitable for use in food and medical technology. These unique properties make fluoroplastic hoses the preferred choice in numerous industries.

What are the differences between PTFE, FEP and PFA hoses?

PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) offers the highest temperature resistance and exceptional chemical resistance, but is mostly used in more rigid applications. FEP (fluoroethylene propylene) offers similar chemical properties but is more flexible and transparent, making it suitable for visual monitoring in processes. PFA (perfluoroalkoxy) combines the properties of PTFE and FEP, but is even more flexible and can handle higher temperatures with similar chemical requirements.

PFA is often used where greater flexibility and temperature tolerance are required without compromising on chemical resistance. The difference in physical properties such as transparency, flexibility and thermal stability determines the choice of suitable material for a specific application. However, all three types are characterized by outstanding resistance and durability.

For which industries are fluoroplastic hoses particularly suitable?

Fluoroplastic hoses are used in a variety of industries, especially where extreme requirements are made. They are frequently used in the food and pharmaceutical industries due to their physiological harmlessness and ease of cleaning. Chemical and laboratory technology benefits from their chemical resistance, which enables the safe transportation of aggressive liquids and gases.

In medical technology, they are valued for their biocompatibility and sterilizability. Electrical engineering and electronics use them for their excellent insulating properties. They are also used in the automotive and aviation industries due to their temperature resistance and durability in demanding environments. Their versatility makes them an indispensable component of modern technologies.

Why are fluoroplastic hoses particularly suitable for hygienic applications?

Fluoroplastic hoses have extremely smooth and non-stick surfaces that prevent the build-up of particles, bacteria or residues. They are completely inert, i.e. they do not react with media that are transported through them, which prevents contamination. These properties make them easy to clean and ensure maximum hygiene, especially in the food, pharmaceutical and medical technology sectors.

They are also temperature-resistant and can be easily sterilized, for example using steam or chemicals. Their material is FDA-compliant and meets all relevant hygiene standards, which facilitates their approval for sensitive applications. These hoses guarantee safety and purity in critical processes.

What temperatures and media can be transported safely with fluoroplastic hoses?

Fluoroplastic hoses are designed for a wide temperature range from around -200 °C to +260 °C, making them suitable for both cryogenic applications and high-temperature processes. They can easily transport aggressive chemicals such as acids, alkalis, solvents and oils without the material being affected.

Gas transports, including highly reactive gases such as chlorine or ammonia, are also safely possible. Thanks to their high temperature and chemical resistance, they remain dimensionally stable and safe even under extreme conditions. They are also resistant to pressure and vacuum loads, depending on the wall thickness and design. Their versatility and reliability make them an indispensable solution in demanding industrial environments.
