Why PVDF heat-shrink tubing is the only option under extreme mechanical stress

In industrial environments where conventional tubing would fail due to friction or cuts, our customers rely on PVDF from ROTIMA. The high transparency of Kynar® tubes also allows for continuous visual inspection of the protected components, which is particularly advantageous in quality assurance.

Key technical advantages include minimal linear change during shrinkage and high puncture resistance. PVDF is also physiologically safe, enabling its use in analytical and medical technology applications where purity and durability must go hand in hand.

PVDF is characterized by its flame-retardant properties and high temperature resistance up to +175 °C. Thanks to its excellent chemical inertness toward acids and solvents, the material remains permanently stable even under harsh environmental conditions.

Processing and Thermal Activation of Kynar® Hoses

Installing PVDF heat-shrink tubing requires a controlled heat input. Since the shrinkage process is fully complete at approximately 175 °C, the temperature must be maintained precisely to ensure uniform wall thickness.

  • Heat sources: We recommend temperature-controlled hot-air blowers or infrared heat shrink tools.

  • Bend radius: For thin-walled PVDF assemblies, the minimum bend radius should be 3 to 5 times the outer diameter to prevent kinks.
