Why PEEK heat-shrink tubing is critical in the aerospace and medical technology industries

In high-tech applications, engineers rely on PEEK when conventional insulation tubing fails mechanically or degrades thermally. Due to its resistance to gamma radiation and its biocompatibility, PEEK is the standard for demanding applications in nuclear technology and for medical instruments that must meet stringent sterilization requirements.

Technically significant are its excellent electrical insulation properties (up to 3,570 V/mil) and its heat resistance, which withstands short-term peaks of up to +400 °C. Its high dimensional stability ensures that sensitive components remain permanently protected even under extreme cyclic loading.

PEEK is distinguished as a radiation-resistant plastic and maintains its structural integrity even under extreme conditions. The tubing is inherently flame-retardant, has very high dielectric strength, and resists aggressive media such as acids, bases, and organic solvents.

Unique selling point: Unlike softer fluoropolymers, PEEK offers outstanding dimensional stability and mechanical toughness. It acts as a high-strength protective shield for cables and sensors exposed to extreme pressures and temperatures.

Thermal Activation and Professional Installation

Installing PEEK heat-shrink tubing requires a suitable heat source, such as a heat gun. Due to its high thermal resistance, heat must be applied evenly until the tubing has fully conformed to the object being protected.

  • Procedure: Slide the tubing over the component and heat it from the center toward the ends (or from one end to the other) to prevent air pockets.

  • Precision: PEEK is characterized by very high dimensional stability, which allows for precise positioning of the insulation.

Service: Custom Cutting and Custom Dimensions

As an experienced distributor, we at ROTIMA supply PEEK heat-shrink tubing in standard lengths or as precisely cut lengths for your mass production. Thanks to our state-of-the-art measuring technology, we ensure that all dimensions fall within tight tolerance limits (up to +/- 0.025 mm for special sizes).

Types and Varieties of Our PEEK Heat-Shrink Tubing

Selecting the correct PEEK heat-shrink tubing variants is critical to the integrity of high-performance systems operating at the limits of their capabilities. PEEK (polyetheretherketone) behaves like a metal-like plastic, whose performance is largely determined by the wall thickness profile, the shrinkage ratio, and the degree of crystallinity. An incorrect choice of variant will inevitably lead to system failure due to plastic deformation or dielectric breakdown when exposed to thermal peaks exceeding +260 °C or mechanical compressive loads in the range of 5,000 psi. ROTIMA therefore strictly differentiates all PEEK heat-shrink tubing solutions based on the application environment and mechanical load curve.
